Best on Ground

Privacy Policy

Last updated 26 September 2026

The short version: your career is saved on your own device, and you can play the whole game without ever signing in. Signing in is optional and only exists so a leaderboard entry can belong to someone — and having your address does not put you on any mailing list. What follows is the detail.

Your career save

Your player’s name, club, statistics and season history are stored in your browser’s own local storage. They never leave your device and we cannot read them. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes the save permanently — there is no copy anywhere else and no way for us to restore it.

Analytics

We use two analytics tools to understand how many people visit and how far they get into a career. Both are used only in aggregate; neither ever receives your player’s name, the club you barrack for, or anything else you type into the game.

Vercel Web Analytics counts page views. It sets no cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. Vercel processes IP addresses transiently to produce an anonymous visitor count and does not store them.

Google Analytics 4 gives us the same page views plus four coarse events — a career being started, a career finishing, a career being shared, and the practice kick being played — carrying only figures like a playing position, a rating, a games-played band, how the career ended and whether it was shared as a picture or as text. On Specky Duel it also records a match starting, finishing or being quit, the walkthrough being finished or skipped, and leaving the game, with only the mode, CPU level, player type, cup round and the score. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so returning visits can be recognised, and the data is processed on Google’s servers, which may be outside Australia. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google states it does not use this data to personalise ads.

When a career ends, its summary (your player’s surname, number, stats and clubs) is sent to our server once to draw the shareable career card. It is used to make that picture and nothing else, and is not stored. Starting a career also adds one to a public count of careers played; nothing about you or your player is sent with it.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics scripts with a content blocker — the game plays exactly the same either way.

Advertising

Best on Ground does not currently show ads. If advertising is added in future it will be served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Where the law requires consent, you will be asked for it before any such cookie is set, and you will be able to decline. This page will be updated before any ad is served.

Signing in, and your email address

Playing needs no account at all. You only sign in — with Google — if you want to put a finished career on the weekly leaderboard, because a place on a board has to belong to somebody. When you do, we receive the email address on your Google account and store it against your leaderboard entries. We never see your Google password.

Having your address does not put you on a mailing list. There is a tick box next to the post button, off by default, that asks whether you want an email when the new weekly challenge drops. Nothing is sent unless you tick it. If you do, it is one email a week, and every one carries a one-click unsubscribe link that needs no sign-in.

We do not sell, rent or share your address, and we use it for nothing else. To have your address and leaderboard entries deleted outright, use the contact address below.

Feedback

If you send feedback from the home screen, we store the message, the time and the kind of device (phone, tablet or desktop), plus a random id this browser made up for itself so one device can’t flood the box. No name, email or IP address is attached, and messages are never shown on the site. Don’t include personal details in a message.

What we never collect

No passwords, no payment details, no phone numbers, no postal addresses. Your career save itself never leaves your device.

Children

The game is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
